Le Siciliane

2023
Settentrionale Sicula
Mauro Mondello

Letizia Battaglia, Franca Viola, Carmen Consoli, Elvira Sellerio, Maria Costa, Dina, Clarenza, Francesca Serio, and many other strong Sicilian women.

They were all determined and proud, striving for fame or redemption, for justice or righteousness, with an extraordinary purpose: to change the existing order of things. In fifty short portraits, illustrated by artists from around the world, "Le Siciliane" tells the heroic deeds of these women who contributed to making Sicily a freer, fairer, and extraordinary place. The book is designed for children from the age of four, who can read it with the help of an adult, but it is also suitable for adults. "Le Siciliane" offers inspiring stories meant to serve as role models for boys and girls of all ages around the world, encouraging them to believe in the importance of pursuing their dreams.

"Le Siciliane" is a project of the Centopassi association from Torregrotta in the province of Messina. It was implemented under the coordination of journalist Mauro Mondello by the editorial team of Settentrionale Sicula, a creative-social center that is part of the association's initiatives. This project is part of a new series of initiatives aimed at expanding the association's scope of action at the regional level and promoting the social integration of marginalized and less protected groups. On a national and international level, it advocates for the promotion of Sicily's socio-cultural reality.
